What Is Edge Banding?
People often ask us, what is edge banding and why is it important? Edge banding is the act of reapplying and fixing the edges of wood products. A lot of wood products are cut from solid wood but their edges are left rough. To fix this, they edge band the wood by applying a vinyl or linoleum band. This makes the wood look like a complete piece and also makes it smooth around the edges.
Edge banding can be done for almost all wood products but is most often done for cabinets and furniture. Edge banding is often done for cabinet doors which have had their banded edges damaged. Since people swing the doors open and close multiple times a day, they tend to absorb lots of damage over time. This causes their edges to peel off and need to be reapplied.
